Nine scrapbooks contain material, dating primarily from the 1920s to the 1940s, relating to the work of the Visiting Nurse Service both during and after the period when it was administered by the Henry Street Settlement. Included are clippings, many about Lillian Wald, the founder of the Henry Street Settlement; brochures describing the nursing service's work; many examples of blank forms such as applications for nurses and student nurses, rating slips which were filled out by nurses in order to receive their pay, call for nurse, daily assignment slip, visit record forms, nurses' time sheets, requisition forms, student nurse evaluation forms, patient record forms, form letters to be sent to patients' doctors, care record forms, and other forms used for nurses, student nurses, patients, and office functions; examples of blank stationary; nursing handbooks; texts of addresses delivered at Lillian Wald's memorial service with related correspondence and clippings, 1940; issues of the REVIEW, a newsletter of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, 1960s to 1970s; press releases, typescripts of nurses' stories about patients; a flyer, "advice for mothers," distributed by nurses; and some miscellaneous printed material.

The Henry Street Settlement was organized in 1893 by Lillian Wald and Mary Brewster in New York City's Lower East Side neighborhood. Miss Wald and Miss Brewster were nurses and the settlement's early work was principally a visiting nurse service. By the time the settlement was incorporated in 1903, its work had expanded to include many of the usual settlement services. Miss Wald was succeeded as headworker in 1933 by Helen Hall.
